Nollywood goes Germany! – Subject to this motto, the „Nollywood Film Festival Germany“ proceeded in Frankfurt on September 9th and 10th 2016. The festival, which is organized by “Ehizogoya Golden Entertainment“, is taking place every year in the second week of September and is supposed to give Nigerian filmmakers the opportunity to present their movies to locals, as well as to their own fellow countrymen all over Europe.

In his opening speech, the president of “Ehizogoya Golden Entertainment“ and host Isaac Izoya also underlined the other advantages of the festival. Besides the intermediation of cultural content, the event can positively wield influence on the self-perception of young Africans in Europe and can also foster cultural exchange between Germany and Nigeria. That this exchange is working out, is verified by the large number of films, that are produced in Germany by now, like „Love In Berlin“ oder „Home And Abroad“.

Like in former years, the festival provided an extensive program with exclusive film-screenings and talks with actors and directors. The festival opened with the premiere of Henry Ozuluonyes Blockbuster “The Stick”, a modern version of Cinderella, which is set against the backdrop of the current social situation in Nigeria.

But yet again the Highlight of the festival was the legendary bestowal of the “Nollywood Europe Golden Awards” at the festive halls of the arts center in Höchst. Nollywood Superstar Charles Inojie led the audience through the evening and introduced the prize-giving. Several filmmakers from Nollywood were awarded, among them Francis Duru as „Outstanding Actor“, Ebigheson Queen Blessing as „Humanitarian ambassador of Nollywood“ and Singer Love Itoya from Greece as „Best Artist from the Diaspora“. Popstar Kiss Daniel aka. „The Woju“ wasn’t just awarded as the “Artist of the year” that night, but also gave his first performance in Europe and entertained the audience with his music.

The “Nollywood Film Festival Germany 2016” was a success all along the line. This year, Nollywood-Fans can also look forward to an unforgettable festival with glamorous star guests in September, because as Isaac Izoya recently disclosed, the „Ehizoya Golden Entertainment“-Team is already feverishly working on the program of this years „Nollywood Film Festival Germany“ – but until then, people have to wait. Those, who can’t await it, can sweeten the waiting time with a trip to the festivals website:
